Name: Jacqueline Barrera Dowling
How long have you been in Greenville? 11 months
Most interesting fact about you: Three months ago, my now husband and I decided to ditch the big fluffy wedding ideas and instead flew off to elope in Paris.
We knew that we didn't want a big wedding and were worried that the importance of our vows would get lost in the stress that planning a big party entails so one day we just said "let's elope!" Paris was our #1 choice from the start.
Besides it being the city of love, my husbands family is originally from Nice, France & we were both very excited to experience the French culture and visit some of the places his mom had always talked about. It turned out to be as amazing as everyone says. The food, the people, the fashion, we're very lucky to have had a stress-free wedding in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And hey, now I can use our anniversaries as an excuse to travel back :)
Your background: I am originally from Hendersonville, NC. While earning my degree in elementary education, I helped with several marketing projects to make money and ended up falling in love with it. Soon I started marketing for parents of my students who owned their own businesses and later quit teaching all together to pursue marketing full-time.
My husband got a job opportunity here in Greenville so here we are!
At first we contemplated moving back to Hendersonville (our parents still live there) and just commuting to Greenville but after a few visits to the Upstate, we knew this is where we wanted to be. Greenville is so up-and-coming and even though it has expanded so much, the community remains very tight-knit. It's a perfect balance between a fun city with a lot going on & a great place to raise a family with a lot of kid-friendly activities. Currently reading or watching: Reading: Whiskey in a Teacup by Reese Witherspoon & Watching: Haunting of Hill House on Netflix
Hobby: Anything related to food! Cooking it, eating it & photographing it. I run a foodie Instagram as well @southeastbite
Tagline / Motto: "Small business, big dreams" — I want to one day be sitting in a luxury office thinking "Ok! So this is what Drake meant when he said we started from the bottom now we're here."
Who do you work for? Myself! I run my own freelance marketing/social media agency, Barrera Marketing Solutions.
What is your day-to-day on the job? I build websites and help small businesses with their social media marketing.
I am currently working with other professionals in the community to put on a workshop for local college girls to help with all the scary/stressful things that senior year brings like putting together resumes, networking, mock job interviews, etc.
