Name: Dina Estrada
How long have you been in Greenville? Fifteen years and counting.
Most interesting fact about you: I find a deep connection with people who love ice cream as much as I do. I guess I like meeting people, too, so my go-to place is Spill The Beans.
Your background: I am Mexican and I love my America. I come from humble beginnings and find joy in the little things in life.
I graduated from Furman University with a double major in Communications and Asian Studies. While at Furman, I emerged from the 'Furman bubble' to serve twice as an intern at the Hispanic Alliance.
With a fondness for education, I love how one can learn anything when willing to put in the effort. Due to my beginnings, learning, achievement, and sharing have always been part of how I create a chain reaction of positive progress, for myself as well as with my people.
I have had the opportunity to mentor young DACA students here in our community and advocate in the South Carolina Legislature about laws impacting the future of DACA recipients.
Currently reading or watching: Game of Thrones, Señor de Los Cielos, HIMUM, Power, YOU & others…
Hobby: I enjoy traveling and stepping into new "territory" and bringing memories back with me. Road trips open up times for some of the best conversations. Unforgettable moments come from both the journey and the destination.
I also like working with plants and seeing them grow over time.
Tagline / Motto: Go Forth and Do Great Things
Who do you work for? I work for the Hispanic Alliance.
We unite the largest network of agencies and individuals working collaboratively to advance Hispanic communities in the Upstate. Our mission is, ultimately, about embracing the American dream for those who have left their countries behind to pursue better opportunities for their children.
What is your day-to-day on the job? As the Programs & Outreach Coordinator, I work at the front where I interact with the public, manage the Student DREAMers Alliance, coordinate and support special projects and participate in all the twist and turns we have come our way during the year with a great team.
