WALT WILKINS // NOVEMBER 2ND, 2018
Name: Walt Wilkins

How long have you been in Greenville? Nearly all my life. I attended Sara Collins Elementary School, Beck Academy for Middle School, JL Mann and CCES for High School. I left for Wofford College in 1992 and then University of South Carolina School of Law in 1996.

After law school, I worked for Lockheed Martin in Cordoba, Argentina as a corporate attorney. I returned to Greenville from my time abroad with a more informed worldview, but also with a renewed appreciation for our city and country.

There's no place like home and I'm grateful to be able to raise my family in this wonderful community.

Most interesting fact about you: I have always secretly desired to be a musician but was not blessed with a lick of talent.

My one and only "gig" was my wife's 30th birthday party. Unbeknownst to her, I took guitar lessons for months prior to the party and surprised her with an epic rendition of our meaningful songs along with a few original works.

Shockingly, my musical debut did not net any further performance requests and I promptly retired.

Your background: I was born and raised in Greenville and I have proudly watched the transformation of this city into a great place to live and work.

I have a BA in Spanish and Government from Wofford College and a JD from University of South Carolina School of Law.

I was in private practice for five years before prosecuting at the federal level as an Assistant United States Attorney and was then named U.S. Attorney for South Carolina in 2008.

I was elected Solicitor in 2010 and serve in that role currently. My biggest accomplishment was convincing my wife to marry me and we have since been blessed with three great children.

Currently reading or watching:
Narcos on Netflix.

This gritty crime drama shouldn't appeal to me given my day job but the historical significance and Spanish speaking draw me in. I'm sorry to say that the demands of the Solicitor's Office and this busy season of raising active children mean the stack of books waiting to be read on my nightstand are currently gathering dust.

Hobby: I love to hunt and fish when I have the time but the most fun I have is with the family. Off the campaign trail, I enjoy playing tennis with my daughter and cheering on my sons at the baseball field.

Tagline / Motto: "Stay true to yourself and do what's right, and in the end, it will all work out."

Who do you work for?
I work for the people of Greenville and Pickens Counties as the Solicitor (Chief Prosecutor)

What is your day-to-day on the job? Each day is different as I manage a staff of 130 which includes 50 attorneys. Typical days include, preparing cases, going to court, meeting with law enforcement on cases or issues, attending a crime scene, or speaking to groups or organizations about our office.

How do you think Greenville would describe you in one word? I think we need two words, "our Solicitor."

Besides residence, where is your favorite Greenville morning hangout? I love to go by Coffee Underground for a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and a coffee. It is the best place to start the morning.

Besides residence, where is your favorite Greenville evening hangout?Donyelle and I love to visit Trattoria Giorgio's for a fantastic Italian meal. Eddie and Chuck are the best servers and Giorgio prepares each meal personally.
