Name: Daydrielane Osorio
How long have you been in Greenville? Five years
Most interesting fact about you: I am a Jamaican woman who speaks fluent Chinese, who married a Mexican from Vermont, and now we have little Chinese speaking 'Jamexican' children with Jamaican accents.
Your background: When I was 15, my dad came home and told us kids that he purchased a photo studio even though he knew nothing about photography! After graduating high school at 16, I attended the Edna Manley College of Arts in Kingston, Jamaica where I learned photography.
A year later, I went on to run my dad's photo studio but wanted to study more, and not just art, so back in 2004, I enrolled at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont. I majored in Photography and Chinese language and culture; met my husband Lucas, got married, finally convincing Lucas to move a little further south for my sun-loving Jamaican blood.
We researched Greenville; fell in love, packed up and left on our 5-year anniversary! We absolutely love it here and enjoy raising our boys here!
Currently reading or watching: 1. "The Keepers of light: A history and working guide to early photographic processes." 2. "The Poetry of Derek Walcott 1948-2013" and 3. "Mankind Search for God."
Hobby: My kids keep me busy, I currently enjoy putting reggae or upbeat music loud on the speakers and chase my excitedly-screaming two year old around the house with my 6 month old in hand!
Tagline / Motto: "It's not about me" - If only we can stop thinking about ourselves for a moment to service other people, and try to understand them, then, even our own lives would be enriched.
Who do you work for? I own and operate Daydream Lane Photography. In addition to photographing small weddings, elopements and taking women's portraits, I provide my clients with an array of beautiful tangible products including handmade photo prints, made with 'love, sweat and blood' (and sometimes tears) by yours truly.
What is your day-to-day on the job? I work with a team of professionals who provide women with complete hair and make-up transformations, then I take beautiful photographs of these women for their website, LinkedIn, dating profile, engagement, anniversary, elopement and just because …( what woman does not want to look beautiful in photographs!!).
Taking the pictures is less than half the work. I spend a lot of time interacting with my clients, making sure we have the same vision for their photos and guiding them as to the best way to accomplish this.
After the photo sessions, I meet with them to 'unveil' their portraits and help them choose the right prints or albums for their lifestyle. I also have days designed where I lock myself in the darkroom, making these one-of-a kind, truly tactile archival prints. When everything is ready, I deliver these works of art to them because I want them to experience the same rush and 'high' I get when they see themselves in print for the first time! I just LOVE it!!!
How do you think Greenville would describe you in one word? Authentic
How would you describe Greenville in one word? Vibrantly-Growing
Besides residence, where is your favorite Greenville morning hangout? I LOVE going downtown to Anthropologie to get creatively stimulated, smell the aromas, see the new kitchen and bath products, feel the textures and treat myself once in a while (and hide it in the closet from my husband for months!).
Besides residence, where is your favorite Greenville evening hangout? Eating Blueberry Frog yogurt and walking around Greenville's Falls Park; our dog loves the attention, the kids love the excitement and my husband and I get time to connect with each other.
